Ben Roethlisberger has sparked a very interesting debate on social media. The Pittsburgh Steelers legend said that if he had to choose between Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes as best quarterback, he would pick the former Green Bay Packers star. It all happened during his podcast Footbahlin.
“Did someone ask a question about would I take Aaron in his prime or Patrick Mahomes now? Well, I would take Aaron in his prime over Patrick now. I think Aaron Rodgers in his prime was one of the top few to ever do it and so is Patrick Mahomes at his prime. Patrick Mahomes is just like entering out of his prime. I think Patrick Mahomes is going to go down as another arguable GOAT. If we’re talking prime and prime, I’m gonna really have to think hard on that.”
During his prime, Rodgers won four MVP awards but was only able to win one championship with the Packers. Meanwhile, Mahomes has already built a dynasty with Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs by winning the Super Bowl three times.
Who is the best NFL quarterback?
Ben Roethlisberger said that, in his prime, Aaron Rodgers was a better quarterback than Patrick Mahomes. It’s important to note that for many years, several experts and former players have said that Rodgers might be the most talented quarterback in NFL history.
However, the championship column doesn’t reflect that dominance, as Rodgers often fell short with the Packers. In contrast, Mahomes has extraordinary in the playoffs as the top contender in the AFC.

Obviously, given the controversial nature of his comment, Roethlisberger didn’t want his view on Mahomes to be misunderstood. Big Ben simply explained that it was an answer to a question comparing Rodgers in his prime to the current version of Mahomes. “By no stretch of the imagination am I saying Patrick Mahomes is not good. This was a question of right now versus the best.”
