While many of the talks around the early NFL offseason days centered on offensive players, it now seems like the franchises are focusing on defense. That’s the Houston Texans‘ case, as they are surrounding the team with depth to help C.J. Stroud with a former Lamar Jackson teammate.
The team saw fit to reinforce their secondary. Hence, they signed veteran cornerback Arthur Maulet to a one-year deal. The report comes from Cameron Wolfe of NFL Media.
Maulet has played 8 years in the NFL. However, he’s repped some big-time jerseys. He is remembered from his time on the Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens. Now, he gets to play on the AFC South.
Maulet is a veteran presence to have on the roster
Maulet might not be a starter for this team, but he adds some much-needed depth. Last year, injuries derailed his season as he played only 3 games with the Ravens. However, he played 14 the year prior, making himself a constant player for Lamar Jackson and company.

He joins safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and cornerbacks Tremon Smith and Damon Arnette as the veteran players to strengthen the secondary. Out of them all, it’s Gardner-Johnson the one projected to be a starter, but the other ones might play key roles as part of the rotation.

The Texans know they need to have an elite secondary, otherwise, they will suffer because their schedule to start the year is tough.

As you can see, not only are they facing dangerous quarterbacks, but they all have dangerous receiving corps. They do need to help C.J. Stroud, or it will be shootout after shootout to start the season.
