Last NFL season proved that the NFC North is one of the league’s most competitive divisions — and all signs point to the bar being raised even higher this year. The Chicago Bears have no intention of being just guests at the party, which is why they’ve worked hard to surround Caleb Williams with the right pieces to help him showcase his full potential.
Now led by Ben Johnson, the team used its first-round pick wisely, acquiring one of the most promising tight end prospects in the league. Colston Loveland, the former Michigan Wolverine, arrived in the Windy City as the 10th overall pick in this year’s draft.
A shoulder injury has prevented Loveland from taking his first reps alongside his teammates, and the young TE himself is eager to see how he’ll hold up once the toughest weeks of preseason preparation begin.
“It’s been good. There haven’t really been live bullets flying yet,” he said, via Aaron McMann of MLive.com. “We’ll really know in camp once I get out there, doing a lot more stuff.”

Colston Loveland #84 of the Chicago Bears speaks to the media after the Chicago Bears Rookie Minicamp at Halas Hall on May 09, 2025 in Lake Forest, Illinois.
What injury does Loveland have?
Colston Loveland spent most of the offseason program on the sidelines, observing team activities as he recovered from surgery to repair the AC joint in his shoulder. During this time, he was seen throwing the ball with his left hand, showing his commitment even in recovery.

The talented TE is expected to begin his full conditioning and return to regular practice once he receives medical clearance for full participation. His reintegration into training will be crucial for establishing effective synchronicity with quarterback Caleb Williams. The chemistry between them will be fundamental to the team’s offensive performance as the season opener approaches.
A new dream begins in Chicago
With their sights set on what promises to be a season full of hope, the Bears — under new head coach Ben Johnson — will face these early challenges as the first true test of what this team is really made of.
