The Chicago Bears have been a historic yet particular franchise in the NFL. After years of not even being considered a contender in the league, they are hoping they face a new dawn. The team hired the hottest head coach candidate in Ben Johnson. Now, quarterback Caleb Williams has made comments about his relationship with his new boss.

Speaking at Fanatics Fest in New York, Williams spoke about what these first few months with Johnson have been.Ben Johnson is great and it’s not just Ben Johnson,” Williams said to Ryan Garcia of Empire Sports Media. “Ben Johnson, he uses some choice words every day toward me. He’s tough and I love him. He’s awesome. It’s great being around him.”

The former number one pick also referred to the tumultous recent past in Bears history. He stated he hopes this new QB-HC duo lasts for a while. “We’re building this bond and relationship to be able to last a while. I know Bears fans, it’s year after year typically, or every other year, where coaches and quarterbacks specifically are in and out and our goal is to be here for a while.” This is a sigh of relief to hear for a fanbase desperate for success and stability.

Ben Johnson can do something never seen before in Chicago

Ben Johnson was the Detroit Lions offensive coordinator prior to taking this job with Chicago. He made a name for himself by being able to draw, effectively, explosive plays on offense. He has an endless playbook with more and more never-seen-before plays.

Johnson was the Lions offensive coordinator from February 2022 until last season. During his tenure as playcaller, he had Detroit as a top 5 offense every single year. That is very positive, as Chicago looks to end one of the worst droughts in NFL history.

While being a storied, respected franchise, there is one blemish on the Bears. They have never had a quarterback passing for 4,000 or more yards in a season. This is insane considering they are the only team to never accomplish this. With Johnson’s creativity and deep playbook, he hopes to guide Williams to fulfill that milestone.

The Bears have the offensive roster to shine

Caleb Williams rookie season was nothing to be stunned by. It wasn’t bad by any means, as he threw for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. However, there were some big criticisms of his game. He looked hesitant at times, didn’t want to throw the football to avoid possible mistakes, bad reads, and how long he kept the ball were among those pointers.

With Johnson, Williams can unleash his full potential and he has the weapons to do so. They have a deep receiving crew. D.J. Moore is a certified WR1 in the NFL. Also, Rome Odunze will enter his second year, and he’s stated he can now play freely, which can be of enormous help to Williams. The Bears also signed veteran, deep-route threat Olamide Zaccheaus and drafted Luther Burden III in the second round of the Draft.

At tight end, they have Cole Kmet, who has been a safety blanket for Williams and they drafted Colston Loveland in the first round this year. Johnson is making sure his quarterback has all the tools he need to take the NFL by storm.
