Andy Reid knows that if the Kansas City Chiefs want to repeat last season’s success — and cap it off with another Super Bowl title — the roster will need to be at full strength. That’s why Patrick Mahomes’ teammates haven’t wasted any time focusing on their physical readiness, especially one of his top offensive weapons.
Isiah Pacheco has been one of the QB’s primary targets since arriving in the NFL, but unfortunately for him, a series of injuries has caused his performance to decline as the weeks — and recent seasons — have gone by.
His weight loss and physical strength had even become a topic of concern for the player himself. However, it was Andy Reid who, in recent comments to the media, expressed his excitement about what the running back has been showing so far.
“He’s put on a couple pounds of good weight,” head coach Reid said via NFL.com. “He got himself down there a little bit last year and leaned up. But man, I think he looks tremendous right now.”

Runningback Isiah Pacheco #10 of the Kansas City Chiefs speaks to the media during the press conference interviews after the Kansas City Chiefs OTAs at The University of Kansas Health System Training Complex on May 29, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Pacheco’s main goal
Physical readiness will be one of the Chiefs’ top priorities to reach the final week as serious title contenders. Besides Mahomes, the rest of the team will need to be at 100% to fully unleash their talents.
Isiah Pacheco, perhaps one of the players most in the spotlight regarding this situation, spoke to the media and revealed what his main goal will be heading into Week 1.
“Just going back to 216, 4.37 Isiah Pacheco-style,” the running back said of his goal with the weight gain, via the Kansas City Star’s Jesse Newell.
Reflections on last season
The physical performance Pacheco aspires to for the upcoming season dates back to his early days in the league — something that, unfortunately for him, was a significant deficit last season due to the injuries he suffered throughout the year with the Chiefs.
“You’re out there working your tail off and just sweating every day and not eating enough to get the weight back,” Pacheco said regarding his experience last season. “There’s not going to be as much time to gain weight during the season, rather than the offseason and the whole program that they have here for us.”
