Chiefs HC Andy Reid receives major message from Patrick Mahomes' new key teammate

Andy Reid has achieved countless milestones since arriving in Kansas City, but his drive to keep winning titles hasn’t slowed down. With Patrick Mahomes leading the way on the field, the Chiefs will once again aim for the Super Bowl — this time with some new faces on the roster.

This past Draft was far from just another event for one of the NFL’s most successful teams in recent years, as the Chiefs made smart, calculated moves with each of their picks — especially their first-round selection.

With the 32nd overall pick, they had the luxury of selecting Josh Simmons, the former Ohio State offensive tackle. The talented player suffered a torn patellar tendon during his final season of college football, and he’s already sent a clear message to his coach: he’ll give everything he’s got in rehab to be ready and available as soon as possible.

“[I] attack rehab as hard as I can — that way, when training camp does come around, I can be the most help that I can possibly be,” Simmons said, via Pete Sweeney of ArrowheadPride.com. “There’s nothing I can really do to force myself [into the lineup]. There’s a lot of vets in here. My thing is just stay out the way and work hard. Be a helpful piece if I can.”

One of the biggest challenges players face when making the jump from college football to the NFL isn’t just adapting to the new environment or physical demands, but also learning the complex plays and strategies each franchise implements for their team.

This is something Simmons immediately noticed when he showed up at the minicamp with his new teammates in Kansas City. Although he acknowledged that the plays weren’t as complicated as he had expected, he will need to study hard to stay on top of each one.

“The playbook is not as complex as I thought it’d be, but it’s different playbook than Chip Kelly, so, [I’ve] got to do a bit of studying,” the talented offensive tackle said to the press.

What it means to be a Chief for Simmons

Making it to the league is the goal for many players, for some, it’s a dream come true, especially if the team that selects you is one of the most successful in recent years. Simmons made this clear with his words: “Everything you could ask for [as a] football player,” he confessed.
