A new era is underway in Dallas following the appointment of Brian Schottenheimer as the Cowboys’ new head coach. The newly appointed HC is placing his trust not only in what Dak Prescott can deliver at quarterback, but also in Micah Parsons, whom he hopes will emerge as the team’s leader in pursuit of big things in the upcoming NFL season.

As the first offseason moves begin to take shape across the league, the former offensive coordinator has embraced this new chapter in his career as the man leading from the sidelines for the Cowboys.

In recent post-practice comments to the media, Schottenheimer made strong statements about Parsons, expressing his hope that the star linebacker can become the leader who takes the team deep into the season.

“The first couple of days, we’re doing some team-building things, some culture,” Schottenheimer said, via the team’s website. “We’re trying to create one of the greatest cultures in professional sports. Micah is going to be a leader for us. He wants to be a leader for us. He’s going to do that. I felt like it was very important for him to be here to begin that process. Again, it’s a voluntary camp but the fact that he did that, means a lot to me.”

The arrival of Pickens in Dallas

Undoubtedly, one of the most significant moves within the Cowboys’ roster was the arrival of former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. He joins the team to compete alongside CeeDee Lamb as one of Prescott’s primary weapons, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer has expressed strong confidence in the acquisition.

“I’m thrilled with the way the guys have responded to him,” the head coach Schottenheimer said of Pickens. “When we did our homework on GP, we don’t have those concerns.

“My time with him has just been incredible,” he also added. I think we’re really excited about what he brings as a football player, but I see a guy that’s maturing. I see a guy that we’re excited to put out there and watch him grow and get better… I love watching him in meetings, because in meetings he’s been so dialed in, taking great notes… his intentionality in the meeting room has been really cool for me to see.”

The Cowboys’ season opener

The Dallas Cowboys will make their NFL season debut on Thursday, September 4, when they face none other than the reigning champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, at Lincoln Financial Field.
