The Dallas Cowboys’ 2024 season fell short of expectations, prompting team owner Jerry Jones to make a familiar hire. This week, the Cowboys announced Brian Schottenheimer as their new head coach, a move that has generated significant buzz—particularly from star quarterback Dak Prescott.

Prescott, who struggled to deliver his best performance last season, faces a pivotal year as he looks to redeem himself and guide the Cowboys back into the good graces of their fanbase. In light of Jones’ decision, the quarterback spoke to the media about the hiring of Schottenheimer.

I mean, Shotty means a lot to me,” Prescott said, via the Cowboys’ official website. “He’s been a consistent man, and I think that’s a part of why he got this job during his time here.” Prescott’s comments underscore his confidence in the new head coach.

“Somebody that shows you the character that is consistent with what they do—that is supportive to me. Anything that has happened to me these three years, on or off the field, I got a message or check-in on that, Prescott added, emphasizing Schottenheimer’s leadership and reliability.

“Just wanted to go support him,” Prescott said. “One, I’m proud of him for seizing this opportunity, and two, I know the approach he’s going to take. I wanted to show him that I’m with him and for him. He signed a four-year deal? I’ve got four years left on my contract, too.”

“The simple conversation I had with Jerry (Jones) after Mike [McCarthy] left was about continuity,” Prescott said. “They wanted to maintain it. We’ve had a lot of success with this group, with these guys, and they knew that was important to me. And Shotty has played a huge role in that.”
