The Dallas Cowboys have one of the most disruptive players in theNFL in Ezekiel Elliott. Heās a tackle-breaking machine and workhorse running back that can put Madden-like numbers weekly. However, they donāt have many postseason wins to show for it.
Americaās Team finally parted ways with Jason Garrett after yet another disappointing season and appointed former Green Bay Packersā head coach Mike McCarthy to pull the strings of the team from now on.
And following some interesting additions in the offseason to an already impressive core, the Dallas Cowboys enter the season as one of the strongest Super Bowl candidates. Obviously, with Elliott leading the way on the ground.
Ezekiel Elliott Says The Sky Is The Limit For Cowboysā New Offense
The former Ohio State Buckeye raved about the teamās new offense under Mike McCarthy, stating that, even though heās just twitched a couple of playcalls, the sky is the limit for them entering the season:
āI donāt think that any changes that weāve made are that big from what we were doing. Just like, little different playcalls. I think Iām ready. Iām pretty comfortable in the offense. Itās very similar to what we ran last year, so itās not really anything thatās crazy-new or crazy-alarming, so itās pretty much the same system Iāve been in the past four years. I think the skyās the limit,ā Elliott told the Cowboysā site.
Ezekiel Elliott To Be More Involved In The Passing Game
Moreover, Elliott wants to be more than a bell-cow running back on the ground as heās been working as a slot receiver as well through most of the offseason, hinting at the possibility of being way more involved in the passing game under McCarthy:
āUh, yeah, I think I will be. I think this offseason, I really didnāt do anything from the backfield. I did a lot of stuff from out at receiver, in the slot. Just trying to evolve my game there, just so I can be more of a viable resource in the pass game,ā McCarthy said.
Elliott is coming off just 54 receptions in 2019, 23 shy of his career high. His presence in the slot would provide even more balance to a Cowboys offense that, at least in the paper, has plenty of weapons to lean on.
