While heâs expected to serve as a backup in Mike Macdonaldâs system, the former Alabama quarterback is looking to soak up as much knowledge as he can alongside veteran Sam Darnold.
Geno Smithâs departure to the Raiders marked a major shift at the quarterback position for the Seahawks. With the arrivals of Darnold and even Drew Lock, it seemed the issue had been addressed â but the front office felt it was essential to add Jalen Milroe to further strengthen the QB room.
Selected with the 92nd overall pick in the NFL Draft, Jalen Milroe â who was recently coached by Kalen DeBoer in college football â couldnât hide his excitement about heading to Seattle, emphasizing that the Emerald City, might be his âperfect spot.â
âThis is definitely a dream come true,â Milroe said in a conference call, per the team website. âThe best thing about it is I was gathered with family throughout this whole process. Itâs definitely a unique journey for sure, not knowing where youâll go, but itâs all about that right spot, and I know Iâm in the right spot moving forward.â

Milroeâs confidence in what lies ahead
The arrival of Jalen Milroe certainly doesnât pose an immediate threat to Sam Darnoldâs position as the starting quarterback under head coach Mike Macdonald. However, the former Alabama standout made it clear to the media that he plans to use this entire process to improve his skills and be fully prepared when his opportunity eventually comes.

âThereâs nothing I canât do on the football field,â he said. âAre there things I can improve on? Absolutely. But thereâs nothing I canât do on the football field. Iâve thrown every type of touchdown, stepped up in the pocket, thrown on the run, gone through my progressions, Iâve thrown a checkdown that scored, Iâve used my legs. When looking, pick and choose what you want on the field, I can do it.
âI say that humbly, not over-arrogant, itâs just more knowing what I bring to the table and knowing that itâs a different dynamic on the football field that I know Iâm going to utilize in the NFL.â
