Los Angeles Chargers enter the season with the goal of maximizing quarterback Justin Herbert’s potential under the leadership of Jim Harbaugh. With the team poised to continue racking up preseason victories, the offense is shaping up as one of the major attractions in LA.
Harbaugh has been adjusting the roster throughout training camp. The offensive line underwent changes following the knee injury that sidelined Rashawn Slater for the season. At the same time, the staff is hoping other key pieces return to action soon.
With Herbert ready to take the field in the preseason, Harbaugh has focused attention on an update regarding the injury status of one of his guards. That guard is Mekhi Becton, whose situation, according to the Chargers head coach, presents a red flag.
The update on Becton
“He’ll be ready when he’s ready… As you know, I’m not a doctor,” was Harbaugh’s cryptic update to the press regarding Becton’s health, as the guard remains sidelined due to an undisclosed issue. The situation presents a curious daily challenge for the Los Angeles team.

The 26-year-old guard was brought in to bolster Herbert’s protection and still hasn’t logged any playing time. The lack of clarity around his recovery raises questions just weeks before the season starts, adding pressure to an offense that heavily depends on keeping its star quarterback well protected.

What is Becton’s injury?
Becton remains out of practice due to a mysterious injury. Although offensive coordinator Greg Roman stated that the issue “isn’t serious” and that Becton is staying productive in meetings and walkthroughs, the reality is he hasn’t practiced since late July.
