The Kansas City Chiefs released a player after failing to establish himself as a Patrick Mahomes weapon on Andy Reid‘s scheme. He wasn’t unemployed for that much time, as the Baltimore Ravens just agreed terms to bring him in as a new player for Lamar Jackson to work with.
Tight end Baylor Cupp had to fight an almost unfair battle on the Chiefs, where he had to try and overcome one of the all-time greats in Travis Kelce, and more established players like Noah Gray. It was impossible for him to prove to Reid and Mahomes he was worth it.
Cupp only played one game for the Chiefs and his statline is filled with zeroes. Now, the highly-regarded college tight end will have another shot at being a part of an NFL contender in Baltimore. The signing was reported by Matt Zenitz from CBS Sports.
Cupp will have a big chance on Baltimore
On paper, this would also be a tough place to earn a roster spot for Cupp. The Ravens have two top-tier tight ends in Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews. However, timing is everything and Cupp’s timing might be the best one possible.

Baylor Cupp #88 of the Texas Tech Red Raiders warms up prior to a game against the Houston Cougars at Jones AT&T Stadium on September 30, 2023 in Lubbock, Texas.
Mark Andrews had a good season but key mistakes have put his confidence in shambles. As for Likely, he will undergo surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot and is expected to miss about six weeks. This means, Cupp is in prime position to actually become a recurrent piece on this offense.

What are the Ravens’ new faces on offense?
The Ravens have not landed a big-time name on its prime this offseason. Still, they looked for NFL veterans that can provide experience and quality. Besides Cupp, who is instead a prospect with potential, the Ravens focused differently elsewhere.
They brought former three-time first team All-Pro receiver DeAndre Hopkins to the roster. Baltimore also added aggressive running back D’Ernest Johnson to be Derrick Henry’s backup. The Ravens are trying to have a deep, versatile roster for Lamar Jackson to guide them.
