Matthew Stafford is entering the final stretch of his NFL career. Now, the Los Angeles Rams quarterback has made a surprising admission—one that Aaron Rodgers continues to avoid.

Some of the greatest quarterbacks of this generation have already walked away from the game. While legends like Peyton Manning and Tom Brady have officially retired, others from that era are still holding on.

Stafford is one of them. The veteran quarterback is approaching the twilight of his career, and unlike some of his peers, he’s not shying away from the reality of retirement.

According to reports, Stafford plans to finish his career with the Rams. He recently confirmed that he sees his near future in Los Angeles, making peace with a truth that Aaron Rodgers has notably refused to acknowledge.

Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Stafford was asked about the possibility of the Rams selecting a quarterback. Rather than feeling threatened, he welcomed the idea, saying he’d be willing to mentor the rookie and help groom the team’s future signal-caller.

“I’m not going to play the hypothetical game with you,” Stafford said during a Monday videoconference. “To me, I’m worried about doing everything I can to be the best version of myself and this team. Whoever we draft, I hope they come in and help our team win. You look at it last year, our first two picks were guys on defense that made huge impacts on our team. So, for me, I’m just trying to load this team up with as many good players as we possibly can.

“If a quarterback comes along and they feel the need to take him, we’ll welcome him with open arms and try to teach him as much as I possibly can.”

Will the Rams draft a quarterback in 2025?

As the draft approaches, it remains to be seen whether Los Angeles will use a pick on a quarterback. But if they do, it’s clear Stafford is ready to guide the next generation—on his terms.
