With the New York Giants signing Russell Wilson on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Steelers have one less competitor for Aaron Rodgers. However, the Minnesota Vikings are still open to having both the 4x NFL MVP and J.J. McCarthy on their quarterback room.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Vikings general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah let everyone know that the team doesnât rule out making a move for Rodgers this offseason.
âVikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah says the Vikings are comfortable with the QB room right now, but wouldnât say that heâd 100% close the door on Aaron Rodgers depending on scenarios,â Alec Lewis of The Athletic wrote on X.
Vikings GM says Kevin OâConnell has already talked with Rodgers
On top of that, Adolfo-Mensah added that Vikings head coach Kevin OâConnell has talked âdirectlyâ with Rodgers. Even though they didnât get to work together in the NFL yet, both were contemporaries as quarterbacks in the league and interacted with each other throughout the years.

Earlier this month, NFL media reported that the Vikings want to give McCarthy the chance to start after missing the 2024 season due to injury. While the team knew that this decision meant risking Rodgers joining the Steelers or another team, it didnât feel like making an early move for the veteran QB.

Of course, it will depend on what the former Green Bay Packers star expects this year. If his intention is to be a guaranteed starter, then the Steelers would make more sense. If he has no problem with adjusting to the Vikingsâ plans, then a return to the NFC North could work. Only time will tell.
