The Kansas City Chiefs have been active in the offseason, keeping key players for Andy Reid as well as bringing new faces to the team. But with many names still available in the open market, a former AFC West rival emerged as a potential signing for the 2025 NFL season.
Veteran safety Justin Simmons is looking for a new team after spending last year with the Atlanta Falcons, but his past with the Denver Broncos may prevent the Chiefs from being one of his favorite options.
“This is where my heart is torn. I’ve always been so publicly against Kansas City, and it’s because they’re a really good team,” Simmons said Tuesday on Up & Adams. “It’s not like a true, ‘Hey, I just want to beat them.’ It’s just ingrained in me to beat them.“
Simmons, 31, went head-to-head with Reid and company from 2016 to 2023 in the Mile High city. He explained having a similar feeling to Josh Jacobs, who preferred to join the Green Bay Packers after leaving the Las Vegas Raiders.

“He was like, ‘No, I want to beat them,'” Simmons said. “Honestly, I feel the exact same way. And so, am I shutting that door? Am I closing it? No. But I just want to be the team that beats them.”

Simmons prefers to compete against Chiefs
Simmons may have intercepted just two passes in the 2024 NFL season, but he knew how to make life hard for Patrick Mahomes during his time in the AFC West, intercepting the Chiefs star six times.
The safety appears to be interested in continue facing Kansas City instead of playing for Reid, naming the Buffalo Bills, Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals during the interview with Kay Adams.
