Brian Schotteheimer was asked whether Joe Milton III was in a development phase after joining the team following a trade with the New England Patriots. Considering the implementation of a new system with the Dallas Cowboys, the team’s head coach said that everyone is in that stage, including Dak Prescott.
“I think they all are. I think Dak is in the developmental phase. That sounds crazy for a guy who has played that much, but, there are things that we are tweaking with Dak. I don’t think it’s just for Joe. Joe is a guy that, we obviously know about the talent, but the system that he came from in Tennessee, you know, created some challenges in terms of just what he has to learn and things like that. The minute these quarterbacks think that they’ve figured it all out, that’s when it’s probably time for them to think about doing something different. The way defenses attack in this league it makes it almost impossible to relax.”
Schottenheimer’s comments were misinterpreted on social media, as many believed he was referring to Prescott’s entire career. However, the head coach absolutely didn’t mean that. The quarterback is the highest-paid player in the NFL and is about to begin his tenth season. No way a star could be in a developmental phase overall.
How long is left on Dak Prescott’s contract?
In 2024, Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $240 million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. That means the quarterback will remain with the team at least through the 2028 season.
After that deal, Prescott became the highest-paid player in NFL history, surpassing names like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, and Lamar Jackson. Naturally, the main criticism of Dak with that kind of money is his lack of success in the playoffs.
