Although last year the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were crowned absolute leaders of the NFC South, this season in the NFL they aim to go even further and achieve bigger goals. To do so, a key move was made by the front office, securing a key weapon for Baker Mayfield ahead of whatâs to come.
The Super Bowl champion alongside Tom Brady and one of the key pieces of the Buccaneersâ offense, Chris Godwin, has agreed to extend his stay with the franchise and will remain under Todd Bowlesâ leadership for at least three more years.
The news was reported by NFL insider Adam Schefter, who, through his official Instagram account @adamschefter, provided more details about the agreement between the wide receiver and the Bucs.
âTampa Bay is re-signing free-agent WR Chris Godwin to a three-year, $66 million contract in which two are fully guaranteed, per sources. The deal has a max value of $72 million,â the Insider reported.

Chris Godwin #14 of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers warms up prior to facing the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on October 03, 2024 in Atlanta, Georgia.
With Godwinâs stay guaranteed for at least the next few years, Baker Mayfield will have one of his favorite playmakers on the field with him. Despite playing only seven games last season, the WR managed to rack up 576 yards and five touchdowns.
Godwin is aiming for his second Super Bowl ring
It is often said that to build great rosters, you need leadership, talent, and players who know what it takes to win in the league. Chris Godwin is one of those holdovers from Bruce Ariansâ team, a Super Bowl champion alongside Tom Brady and many other key figures.
Back then, in Super Bowl LV, the Bucs defeated Patrick Mahomesâ Kansas City Chiefs 31-9. Godwin had a minimal impact during the game, recording just two catches for nine yards.
A Pro Bowler is coming to Tampa
Godwinâs return with the Bucs is not the only recent news regarding the formation of Tampa Bayâs roster for the upcoming NFL season. According to information provided by insider Adam Schefter, joining Todd Bowlesâ team is linebacker Haason Reddick, coming over from the Jets.
âHaason Reddick has agreed to terms on a 1-year deal for $14 million, including $12 million guaranteed with the Buccaneers. The deal was negotiated by Drew Rosenhaus,â the reporter stated via @adamschefter.
