Patrick Mahomes remains one of the defining active legends in the NFL, and he is once again chasing another Super Bowl with the Kansas City Chiefs. As the saying goes, greatness recognizes greatness — and Mahomes is making it clear he’s looking to follow in the footsteps of NBA icons LeBron James and Michael Jordan.
Mahomes is putting that mindset into action ahead of the 2025 season by stepping into the business world as the No. 2 owner of a new coffee brand, Throne Sport Coffee. His deep interest in entrepreneurship, combined with his passion for coffee, made the move a natural fit.
“I’ve always been interested in business just from watching when my dad [former MLB pitcher Pat Mahomes] played sports, and then watching other athletes like LeBron or Michael Jordan, Alex Rodriguez — these guys — is that as much as you have success in sports, business is kind of the same feel,” Mahomes told ESPN’s Lindsey Thiry. “It’s competition.” His coffee brand aims to offer a healthier caffeine option, with low calories, reduced sugar, and all-natural ingredients.
Of course, LeBron and Jordan have built legacies far beyond their dominance on the court. Both have become powerful businessmen with a global media presence that transcends sports. Mahomes is now following that same blueprint, taking cues from other athlete-entrepreneurs along the way.

Where does this idea come from?
One notable influence comes from the Golden State Warriors’ Jimmy Butler, who famously turned heads in the NBA Bubble of 2020 with Big Face Coffee. That venture went viral and has since grown into a thriving brand, setting an example for athletes looking to diversify their portfolios. Mahomes is hoping to bring similar energy — and profitability — to his own coffee business.

On the football side, Mahomes and the Chiefs enter the 2025 season with the same sky-high expectations they’ve carried in recent years. They are three-time defending AFC champions and will be aiming for a third Super Bowl in four years this fall, which would mark the fourth title of Mahomes’ career.
The former NFL MVP is still widely considered the best quarterback in the league, but he knows maintaining that edge will require sustained excellence. With the AFC loaded with talent, Mahomes will need to keep pushing the limits both on and off the field.
For Mahomes, chasing greatness is no longer just about what happens on Sundays. Whether it’s in the pocket or in the boardroom, he’s building a legacy that could rival the very legends he’s trying to emulate.
