The Cleveland Browns will have a new quarterback to help boost the offensive line heading into the 2025 NFL season, where it’s expected that this new player, who has experience with the Pittsburgh Steelers, could compete with Deshaun Watson for the starting role.
According to information revealed by Ian Rapoport, the Eagles will trade Kenny Pickett to the Browns in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-round pick. It’s important to note that Pickett not only played for the Steelers but also won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia team.
Pickett is already an experienced player; his most recent stint with the Eagles under Jalen Hurts provided him with valuable insight, especially seeing how his team made it to the playoffs and ultimately the Super Bowl LIX.
In 2024, Pickett threw 42 passes, of which only 25 were completed, which is understandably low since he was the backup for the Eagles. His time with the Steelers was different; he started 24 games between 2022 and 2023 and never finished with a losing record, but he simply wasn’t what Tomlin was looking for.

Watson was available for only 7 games during the 2024 season due to a setback injury to his Achilles, which unfortunately left him sidelined. By that point, the Browns were struggling with a 1-6-0 record, and the absence of their starter was quite tough for the team.

It’s worth noting that Watson hasn’t had a good season since 2020, when he was playing for the Texans. That was the last time he was available for most games, and he recorded what has been his career-high in passing yards with 4,823.
