Jerry Jones is rebuilding the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2025 NFL season following a disappointing campaign last year, which ended with the conclusion of Mike McCarthy’s tenure. The arrival of Brian Schottenheimer comes amid a restructuring process, which includes securing a record-breaking contract deal.
The Cowboys have already started making moves in the offseason, and the changes are starting to take effect. Jones has been active in the market, showing that not only acquisitions are important but also contract renewals.
In recent hours, the Cowboys agreed a three-year record contract with KaVontae Turpin, who is now the highest-paid special teams player in the NFL. The 28-year-old player signed a $18 million deal. The news were reported by ESPN’s insider Jeremy Fowler.
Turpin’s performance at the Cowboys
Turpin has returned 60 punts for 569 yards and a touchdown, along with 58 kickoff returns for 1,704 yards and one score. His 904 kickoff return yards in 2024 were the most of his career and earned him First-Team All-Pro honors.

KaVontae Turpin of the Dallas Cowboys
KaVontae Turpin arrived in Dallas in 2022 after standing out in the USFL with the New Jersey Generals, where he was named the league’s MVP. That year, he made his debut with the Cowboys, quickly establishing himself as an elite return specialist and earning a Pro Bowl selection in his rookie season.
