After a chaotic 2024 season, the Jets have opted for another fresh start. Aaron Glenn is the team’s new head coach, and his first major decision was to name Justin Fields as the starting quarterback, letting go of Aaron Rodgers, who eventually signed with the Steelers.
The interesting part of the situation is that, in a division like the AFC East, dominated by Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, expectations for the Jets are very low. All projections suggest they are far from being playoff contenders.
However, we cannot forget that Glenn revitalized the Detroit Lions’ defense, and that could be the first step in New York. A surprising trade with the Minnesota Vikings might be proof of that.
Who did the Jets trade for?
The Jets have made a trade with the Vikings to acquire Harrison Phillips. In an unexpected move, the veteran tackle arrives in New York to bolster Aaron Glenn’s defense. Adam Schefter confirmed all the details.
“Sources: Vikings are trading DT Harrison Phillips and a 2027 7th-round pick to the New York Jets in exchange for a 2026 6th-round pick and a 2027 6th-round pick, pending Phillips’ physical. Phillips now joins Jowon Briggs as the second DT that the Jets traded for Wednesday. As part of the Jets-Minnesota trade, the Vikings agreed to pay $3.7 million of Harrison Phillips’ $7.4 million salary this season, per source. So, the Jets get a defensive tackle and some savings to boot.”

The other move the Jets made to strengthen their defensive line was a trade with the Cleveland Browns for Jowon Briggs. A very clear message of the immediate rebuild Glenn aims to achieve.
