Friday afternoon brought good news for the San Francisco 49ers, as they secured a contract extension for star quarterback Brock Purdy in the next NFL seasons. However, the NFC West franchise didn’t stop there and added another player to head coach Kyle Shanahan’s roster.
Purdy’s extension is a five-year, $265 million deal, including $181 million guaranteed. The contract makes him the highest-paid player in franchise history and keeps him in San Francisco through the 2030 season. It’s clear he’s now being valued as the caliber of player he has become.
The Niners’ roster secures a star in Purdy, who has exceeded expectations since being selected as the final pick of the 2022 draft, leading the team to back-to-back NFC Championship appearances and a Super Bowl berth. However, Shanahan will now have another new presence on board.
New player to join 49ers
The 49ers signed veteran kicker Greg Joseph to a one-year deal, according to his agent Brett Tessler. This addition could be aimed at creating competition with last season’s starting kicker, Jake Moody, who has held the job for two consecutive years.

Greg Joseph’s career in the NFL
Joseph is a 30-year-old veteran with an eight-season NFL career, having played for teams such as the Minnesota Vikings, New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and New York Jets. He has posted solid career numbers, converting 82.3% of his field goal attempts and 90.8% of his extra points.
