Word around the NFL is that Aaron Rodgers has already chosen the Pittsburgh Steelers. But until he makes it official, the Minnesota Vikings will continue to be seen as a potential landing spot for the 41-year-old. Therefore, Matt LaFleur and the Green Bay Packers can’t rule out facing their former quarterback twice a year yet.
While seeing Rodgers on another NFC North team after so many years together would be strange, LaFleur downplayed the situation with a friendly, eight-word message about this hypothetic scenario.
“It would be a helluva story, wouldn’t it?” LaFleur said when asked about the prospect of Rodgers playing for the Vikings during NFL League Meetings on Tuesday, via Packers reporter Rob Demovsky of ESPN NFL Nation.
“I mean, there are great players on every team. If it works out, it works out,” LaFleur added. “That’s not something I’ll sit here and constantly think about. Sure, you think about the week of when you’re playing somebody.”

Rodgers’ time with LaFleur on the Packers
LaFleur has been at the helm of the Packers since 2019 and worked with Rodgers for four years before the star quarterback forced his way to the New York Jets in 2023. Even though they couldn’t win a Super Bowl together, the coach did bring the best out of A-Rod, who was named MVP twice under LaFleur.

Rodgers’ departure from Green Bay wasn’t pretty, but LaFleur and the front office handled his exit perfectly. The Packers had already prepared for this scenario by drafting Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and even though that decision may have created some tension with Rodgers, time proved them right.
Rodgers expected to join Steelers
Rodgers has been thinking about his future for a while now. Even though he’s stayed silent throughout this process, the quarterback did make a couple of actions that increased his connection with the Steelers.
Over the weekend, the four-time NFL MVP was seen having a throwing session with wide receiver DK Metcalf, who was traded to Pittsburgh this offseason. Earlier in March, Rodgers talked with Mike Tomlin during a visit to the team’s facility.

The Vikings aren’t closing the door on A-Rod, though. Rodgers and J.J. McCarthy got a clear message from Kevin O’Connell in regard to the team’s starting job, which could be up for grabs if Rodgers is still available later this offseason. Only time will tell whether Rodgers keeps on waiting for the Vikings or if he ultimately confirms the Steelers rumors.
