Aaron Rodgers continues to delay his response to the Pittsburgh Steelers‘ offer for the 2025 NFL season, and the franchise’s black and gold roster is not resting in the offseason, securing an extension for a player who could be important to head coach Mike Tomlin.
The 41-year-old quarterback is expected to make a final decision before the draft, which begins in late April. In the meantime, preparations to assemble a more competitive roster are already underway for the Tomlin‘s Steelers, who are optimistic about Rodgers’ potential arrival even as their patience begins to wear thin.
In an ideal scenario for Pittsburgh, a solid offensive line could protect Rodgers from sacks and opposing pressure, giving him more time to make decisions and execute plays. The Steelers are looking to change their future and win a playoff game for the first time in eight years, so they know what they want.
The player the Steelers secured
The player who extended his contract with the Steelers is none other than offensive lineman Calvin Anderson, who signed a two-year deal with Tomlin’s team. He had already played four games in Pittsburgh in the 2024 season, but none of them as a starter.

Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks on prior to the game against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium on October 23, 2022 in Miami Gardens, Florida.
This will be Anderson’s sixth season in the NFL after playing on the practice squads of the New England Patriots and New York Jets, with his longest stint being with the Denver Broncos, where he served from 2019-2022 before returning for a brief stint with the Patriots in 2023. With his extension, Tomlin will add depth to the Steelers offensive line in anticipation of Rodgers.
