After weeks of speculation, Russell Wilson finally knows where he’ll play in the 2025 NFL season. Whether Brian Daboll wants him to start beyond this year remains uncertain though, as the New York Giants can still get another quarterback in April.
With the Giants holding the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the temptation of landing one of the best signal-callers from this year’s class might be hard to resist. Wilson made it clear to Daboll and the front office that he’ll do whatever he can to help a rookie, though he’s ready to prove the offense is in good hands with him under center.
“The great part about professional sports is constant change constant movement,” Wilson said at a press conference on Wednesday, via Pro Football Talk. “If we draft a quarterback, we’ll make sure he does everything he can to be ready to go and be prepared with his mentality. But for me I’m focused on winning, what I can do as a quarterback of the New York Giants to help us win and do everything we can to lead.
“I’m excited. I’ve been gifted with so much in this game in terms of experiences and things I’ve gone through, all the great moments, some tough ones along the way. Also being inside the white lines, that is my most favorite place to be. I’m excited to do that and to rock the New York Giants jersey.”

One more chance for Wilson, this time in NY
At 36 (he turns 37 in November), Wilson knows that the Giants might be giving him one last chance to challenge for another Super Bowl. Winning a second ring was what pushed him to leave the Seahawks, but he’s struggled to find success outside Seattle.

Wilson, Giants look right for each other
It’s already been more than a decade since he lifted the Vince Lombardi trophy with the Seahawks in 2014, and the clock is ticking for the aging quarterback. His desperation to win one more time, however, makes him a great fit in New York.
The Giants haven’t made it to the Super Bowl since 2012, when they took down Tom Brady’s New England Patriots for a second time. With Daniel Jones falling short of expectations in the last few years, Daboll and company hope that a proven veteran with a track record of success like Wilson helps them get over the hump.
Giants could still make more QB moves
But while this is obviously interesting for the short-term as a win-now move, the fact is that Wilson isn’t getting any younger. With such a high draft pick this year, one would understand if the Giants take a promising prospect for the long term.
It may depend on what the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns do with the first and second picks, respectively. Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are not expected to be available when it’s the Giants’ turn, but if they do, it would be hard for New York to look elsewhere.

Either way, even if it’s not in the first round, the Giants will have eight total picks in the 2025 NFL Draft, so chances are that they take a rookie QB at any round. If they do, the team will probably have to reshape its current QB room.
The Giants head into the Draft with three quarterbacks under contract, having re-signed Tommy DeVito before adding veteran QB Jameis Winston, a move that preceded Wilson’s signing.
