The Houston Texans are looking to keep the bar high after a strong playoff showing in the 2024 NFL season. Head Coach DeMeco Ryans’ team has made some roster moves and has re-signed a key teammate for quarterback CJ Stroud.
The receiver-quarterback relationship was a key pillar of the Texans‘ performance throughout last season, in which they reached the divisional round. Stroud, in his second year as a pro, proved to be a rising star, leading the offense with his accuracy and leadership.
The Houston franchise has also seen its offense bolstered by the outstanding play of wide receiver Nico Collins, who became Stroud’s primary aerial weapon and finished the season with over 1,000 yards receiving. Just in the last few hours, the Texans made a contract decision regarding Collins.
What is the Texans decision regarding Collins’ contract?
The Texans restructured the contract of wide receiver Nico Collins, CJ Stroud’s teammate in Houston. The move has a big impact as it frees up nearly $10 million by converting a portion of the base salary for the 2025 season into a signing bonus and spreading the remaining impact over the salary cap for the remainder of his contract.

Collins had signed a three-year extension with the Texans last May worth up to $75 million, with $52 million guaranteed. The move is nothing more than a classic contract restructuring, a practice used to create salary cap space ahead of free agency.

The Texans will have to figure out the composition of the wide receiver corps. With Collins as the primary weapon, the new salary cap space could go towards bolstering that area of the roster. All signs point to WRs Stefon Diggs and Robert Woods hitting free agency, and they will need to come up with names that can continue to carry the team.
