The Washington Commanders are battling a contractual dispute with one of the best wide receivers in the NFL. New reports have given a new update on how much money Terry McLaurin is asking the team to give him.
According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic, Terry McLaurin is asking for āmore than DK Metcalf.ā The new Steelers wideout got a four-year, $132 million extension. That would put McLaurin on the top 5 of highest paid receivers in the NFL.
On a per annum base, McLaurin would earn $33 million on average per season. However, the team is looking more of a contract along the lines of Courtland Sutton. Denver signed him to a four-year, $92 million, which puts him on $23 million per year. There is a $10 million gap between both parts.
The gap is not as big to be a deal-breaker
While other contractual issues might be bigger, $10 million is not as big of a gap. It seems likely that after a summer-long negotiation, both parties would like to meet in the middle. It will all come down to the guaranteed money in the end.

There is still a chance for a holdout to continue
While unlikely, there is still an odd chance that Terry McLaurin decides to keep his holdout going. However, that will cost him money and with the NFL season starting, he would have to recover lost ground if he does continue his holdout.
Also, McLaurin is a team player, a captain and a leader in this locker room. From what heās shown us during his career, he is dying to play and that may make him hurry to get a deal done as soon as possible.
