When we talk about the Kansas City Chiefs, one of the first things that comes to mind is the iconic Arrowhead Stadium. One of the NFLās most storied venues, it has been the stage for many of Patrick Mahomesā greatest moments ā despite the looming possibility of the franchise eventually relocating to a new home.
The ongoing debate about the future location of the franchise has drawn attention from both fans and outsiders alike ā and thereās no doubt that the voices of the teamās biggest stars carry significant weight.
Mahomes, the face of the Chiefs, recently spoke to the media and said he couldnāt fully take a side on whether the team should move stadiums. However, he emphasized that the only way is to move forward ā and to make sure things are done right, especially for the fans.
āYou know, it is really out of my control, honestly,ā he said in an interview with Alex Sherman of CNBC Sport. āBut I think thereās a ā Arrowhead is a special place. Itās a special place that doesnāt come around a lot of times. Itās my favorite place to play in the NFL, not just because itās my team, but you can feel the history of it when you play.ā

Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrates with fans after defeating the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Playoff at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium on January 18, 2025 in Kansas City, Missouri.
āBut I know Kansas has done a great bit as well,ā the QB also added. āAnd I mean, they would build a great stadium and facility and be the top of the top. And so I donāt really have a choice no matter, anyways, but I think either way, we canāt go wrong, because we have the fan base of the Chiefs Kingdom behind us, and theyāll fill that stadium, no matter if itās in Missouri or Kansas. So Iām just excited for the future of the Kansas City Chiefs.ā

Are the Chiefs leaving Arrowhead?
The Kansas City Chiefs find themselves at a crossroads when it comes to their stadium situation. While they are currently under lease at Arrowhead Stadium through 2031, the organization is actively exploring the possibility of building a new domed stadium in Kansas.
This potential move is being driven in part by an appealing state-backed financing offer from Kansas, while neighboring Missouri has responded with a counterproposal in an effort to keep the team on its side of the border. Both states recognize the economic and cultural value the Chiefs bring to the region.
A final decision is expected by late 2025 or early 2026. Whatever the outcome, it will have major implications not only for the future of the franchise, but also for the broader sports landscape in the Kansas City metro area.
