The New England Patriots are the team everyone loves to hate around the NFL. It's been like that since Bill Belichick took over and turned them into one of the most dominant dynasties in the history of football.

That's why a lot of people were angry when the Patriots got one of the biggest steals of the offseason - of so they thought - when they signed Cam Newton to a one-year deal on a massive discount.

Fast-forward to today and they're not even likely to make the playoffs and Newton has been far from the MVP and dual-threat top-tier quarterback he was before suffering multiple injuries throughout the years.

Bill Belichick Admits The Patriots' Passing Game Has Been Subpar

Belichick has had Newton's back for most of the season. He's benched him for Jarrett Stidham twice in blowout losses but has repeatedly stated that he'll continue to be their quarterback going forward.

However, now that they're on the verge of elimination for the first time in years, the legendary coach had no choice but to admit that their passing game has been far from stellar throughout the season:

“Our passing game is still not as efficient as we need it to be," Belichick admitted when asked about his biggest concern ahead of the remainder of the season. And truth be told, that's exactly their biggest problem.

The Patriots currently average just 198.2 passing yards per game, which ranks last in the league. Cam Newton has only completed 199 of 301 passes for 2,172 yards and 5 touchdowns against 5 interceptions.

As of now, it seems like Newton's days as a starter beyond this season are all but over. He had a great career and was pretty close to winning a Super Bowl, but his relentless play and tough luck condemned his promising career.
