Robert Griffin III, as a former quarterback, understands just how hard it is to earn a massive contract in today’s NFL. So when news broke about Brock Purdy’s $265 million extension with the San Francisco 49ers, RGIII made his stance crystal clear as he tried to silence the quarterback’s critics.

“Brock Purdy EARNED every penny of his $265 Million extension and is one of the most underrated QBs in the NFL,” Griffin wrote on X. “Incredible story of being the last pick in the Draft and now the $53 Million a year 49ers Franchise QB. And Brock puts God first in all he does. You LOVE to see it!”

In the written portion of his post, Griffin emphasized that Purdy’s new deal is the result of everything he’s accomplished with the 49ers—not just because he’s a promising young quarterback, but because of the real results he’s already delivered on the field.

Griffin Comes to Purdy’s Defense

In the video portion of his message, Griffin directly addressed those who continue to doubt Purdy. He argued that critics tend to overlook how instrumental Purdy has been in the 49ers’ recent success, and dismissed the negative talk about the quarterback’s arm strength and size as unfair.

Griffin reminded viewers that while Purdy may not be Lamar Jackson, he’s more than capable of making plays in the open field and has consistently outperformed expectations. He called Purdy’s journey from Mr. Irrelevant to franchise quarterback a model of perseverance and a story young athletes should look up to.

Purdy Will Earn More Than Jalen Hurts

One of the more striking details of Purdy’s extension is that it will pay him more annually than current Super Bowl champion Jalen Hurts. With Purdy now making $53 million per year, Hurts drops to 11th on the list of highest-paid quarterbacks at $51 million annually.
