The last season for the New Orleans Saints certainly didn’t yield the expected results, especially after the tough injury suffered by Derek Carr. While the team is still betting on the talent of the former Raiders quarterback for the future, all signs point to them targeting a solid backup for him in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Several talented QB’s will be available in the upcoming draft, but there is one who has particularly caught the attention of New Orleans. If all goes as planned, he would be the one targeted by the franchise to join for the upcoming season.

According to the latest report from journalist John Hendrix of Athlon Sports, the Saints have a new visit scheduled with Quinn Ewers, who was the starter for the Texas Longhorns last season.

Ewers and the Saints had already met a few days earlier at the NFL Combine, so this second visit signals an even greater interest from the franchise in securing his services in the near future. The meeting is scheduled for mid-April.

Moore’s opinion on the QBs

In this sport, if there is one position that inevitably carries the most relevance, it is the quarterback. With Derek Carr dealing with a serious hand injury last season, coach Kellen Moore doesn’t want to leave anything to chance and will be very meticulous about the level of players in this position.

“Everyone does homework every year,” Kellen Moore said at Tuesday morning’s annual league meeting. “It’s a valuable position.” While the head coach had stated at the time that Carr would be his starter, he also expressed satisfaction with having Spencer Rattler on the roster.

The potential arrival of Ewers to the roster means increased competition, and those already on the team know they can’t afford to slack off in their preparation, as Moore won’t hesitate to make any changes he deems beneficial for the group.

Ewers’ standout season at Texas

Declaring for the upcoming NFL draft seemed like an obvious decision. While there were moments when he couldn’t fully showcase his talent, Ewers has been a true standout for Sarkisian’s team, taking them deep into the College Football season last year.

In his final season with the Longhorns, Ewers completed 293 of 444 passes (65.8%) for 3,472 yards, throwing 31 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. He earned a spot on the Second-Team All-SEC at the end of the year.
