Steelers News: Aaron Rodgers could find the successor to Ben Roethlisberger for Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh

Aaron Rodgers may be in Pittsburgh for just one season, but his impact could shape the franchise's future for years to come. With veteran leadership and a willingness to mentor, Rodgers might help Mike Tomlin discover the next great Steelers quarterback.

Aaron Rodgers confirmed during an interview with Pat McAfee that he is willing to help Will Howard in any way he can with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The rookie quarterback was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 Draft after winning the national championship in college football with Ohio State.

ā€œWill’s a rookie. So, I pulled him aside during one of the days and said: ā€œListen, I want to help you as much as possible, but, I’m not gonna overstep my bounds. If you want assistance, I’m here buddy. I want to help you. From the playbook and my own mistakes. That’s where everything is going to come from. If I can help you become a better player this year, that would be an incredible achievement for me.’ He’s a real good kid. He’s had a lot of success at the college level.ā€

Before signing with the Steelers, many rumors around the NFL suggested that one of Rodgers’ conditions for joining Pittsburgh, or any team, was not having to be overshadowed by a rookie, such as Shedeur Sanders. However, the veteran has denied this several times and, on the contrary, has shown a willingness to share all his knowledge with Howard.

Who will be the next Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback?

Aaron Rodgers will be the next quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but the star has officially announced that he will only play for one year. Given this scenario, Mike Tomlin hopes to have his prospect ready to become the franchise QB by 2026.

Although multiple reports indicate that the Steelers have amassed draft capital to go after names like Drew Allar or Arch Manning, Rodgers hinted that Will Howard could have a real opportunity to become the true successor to Ben Roethlisberger.

ā€œI was impressed by him. I thought he looked really sharp. He made a bunch of great throws. I’d love to help Will and set him up to have a chance to be the guy for the next who knows how long. I think that’s part of the opportunity. I’m looking forward to that.ā€
