Vikings reportedly in talks with a quarterback who missed last NFL season to fill the gap left by Sam Darnold

The Minnesota Vikings are determined to make the upcoming season as successful as the last. To that end, they are planning to sign a quarterback who was out of action in 2024.

The Minnesota Vikings continue to make adjustments at the quarterback position following Sam Darnold’s departure—a move that surprised some. The franchise is actively exploring the market ahead of the 2025 NFL season, with one potential candidate being a quarterback who was not part of any team last year.

According to Jordan Schultz, the Vikings are reportedly in discussions with former Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill about a potential deal. However, nothing concrete has materialized as of now.

It’s worth noting that Tannehill did not play in 2024 and was one of the overlooked quarterbacks available on the NFL market. His experience could be a good fit for Kevin O’Connell’s system, which likely prioritizes avoiding costly mistakes.

The Vikings’ need for a quarterback is significant. Experts believe the team would benefit most from adding a veteran. While names like Aaron Rodgers have been mentioned, no agreements have been reached with him or anyone else.

Tannehill’s Impact on the Titans

An 11-year NFL veteran, Tannehill helped lead the Titans to three consecutive playoff appearances between 2019 and 2021—a feat the franchise has not achieved since his departure in 2023. Throughout his tenure with the Titans, Tannehill consistently finished most seasons with a winning record, except for his final campaign, which ended at 3-5-0.
