The yellow hypocycloid represents coal, red stands for iron ore, and blue represents steel scrap. The Steelers appealed to the institute to use its logo. Before it was official, the team revised the word 'Steel' to 'Steelers'," the report read

Then again, that doesn't answer the age-old question. Why do the Pittsburgh Steelers only have their logo on one side of the helmet? Well, believe it or not, it's because they consider it to bring good luck.

 

See, back in the day when the team introduced their new design, their helmets were gold instead of black. They didn't know how the logo would look on the helmet, so they tried it on the right side and see how it went.

 

The Steelers finished the 1962 season with a 9-5 mark and made it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and to celebrate such a remarkable milestone, they introduced an all-black helmet with the logo on the side.

 

So yes, at the end of the day, the one logo on the side is a bit of a lucky charm for the Pittsburgh Steelers. And, to be fair, you can't deny that it's worked thus far, as they've won an NFL-best 6 Super Bowls.
