Ever since the dawn of football, the Pittsburgh Steelers became one of the most popular teams in the world. Their tough defenses, physical rushing attacks, and relentless desire to compete paved their way to a huge success around the NFL.

Then again, it seems like even some of the team’s diehard fans just can’t seem to crack one of the league’s ancient mysteries: Why do they only have their logo on one side of the helmet instead of both sides?

There have been countless theories about this particular design but, obviously, most of them are just made up. In the following paragraphs, we’re going to let you know exactlywhy they use it like that.

What Does The Pittsburgh Steelers’ Logo Mean

According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, the Steelers’ particular logo actually dates back to the American Iron and Steel Insititute, and each color stands for the elements that compose steel:

ā€œThree four-pointed geometric shapes called hypocycloids in yellow, red and blue was originally the logo for the American Iron and Steel Institute. Before it was official, the team revised the word ā€˜Steel’ to ā€˜Steelers’,ā€ the report read

Why Do The Pittsburgh Steelers Only Have Their Logo On One Side Of The Helmet

Then again, that doesn’t answer the age-old question. Why do the Pittsburgh Steelers only have their logo on one side of the helmet? Well, believe it or not, it’s because they consider it to bring good luck.

See, back in the day when the team introduced their new design, their helmets were gold instead of black. They didn’t know how the logo would look on the helmet, so they tried it on the right side and see how it went.

The Steelers finished the 1962 season with a 9-5 mark and made it to the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, and to celebrate such a remarkable milestone, they introduced an all-black helmet with the logo on the side.

So yes, at the end of the day, the one logo on the side is a bit of a lucky charm for the Pittsburgh Steelers. And, to be fair, you can’t deny that it’s worked thus far, as they’ve won an NFL-best 6 Super Bowls.
