Anton Frondell was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in what many expected to be a key pick for a team looking to add size and strength at center. At 6-foot-2, Frondell could eventually slot in close to Connor Bedard as the Blackhawks continue building around their young star.
In a recent comment, the team’s scouting director revealed that Frondell is open to playing any position—as long as it doesn’t interfere with Bedard’s role, he’s willing to adapt.
“Blackhawks scouting director Mike Doneghey said he asked Anton Frondell at the combine if he saw himself as a center or wing. Frondell responded, ‘Whatever Connor doesn’t play, I’ll play,’” reported Ben Pope on X.
When Will Frondell Sign with the Blackhawks?
Blackhawks General Manager Kyle Davidson shed light on Alexander Frondell’s future with the team, revealing that while a contract isn’t ready currently, they “will figure it out.” Davidson expressed full confidence that his new player will attend an NHL camp with the team.
“The plan as we stand here today is that he’s playing in Djurgarden in the SHL next year, but we’ve got a lot of time to figure out if that’s the best path,” Ben Pope shared on X, quoting Davidson.
What Can the Blackhawks Expect from Frondell?
Frondell is projected to be a key player alongside Connor Bedard, forming a dangerous duo for opponents. Analysts already consider him a significant part of the Blackhawks’ young core.
“He’s ahead of his peers physically and his offensive capabilities are somehow still underrated. He’s a top-six player in the long term whose two-way skill and high-end scoring potential will make him an impact player for Chicago,” wrote Lindsey Plotkin for FloHockey.
