Barcelona vs Real Madrid: The most memorable Clasico of all time

Needless to say, it’s hard to pick just one game from all the derbies between these two giants who have such a long-lasting rivalry. But it would be safe to say that there was one match that fed this rivalrylike no other.

We’re talking about the second leg of the 1943 Copa del Generalisimo (current Copa del Rey) semifinals, a clash that Barcelona remember as ‘the shameful game.’ Real Madrid turned around a 3-0 deficit from the opening fixture with an 11-1 controversial triumph.

Amid Franco’s dictatorship in Spain, Los Cules have claimed they were threatened by the military forces that game and the referee’s decisions were also seriously questioned. That’s why Madrid can’t take too much pride of this match, but it still played a pivotal role in fueling their rivalry.

However, each side has its games to remember. Los Blaugranas, for instance, will never forget the time Pep Guardiola‘s boysput five past Jose Mourinho‘s Real Madrid, while Los Merengues also can show off a memorable 5-0 win over Barca in the 1994-95 season. Soon, they’ll face off again aiming to continue writing history. Tune in to ESPN+ to watch it in the US.
