Barcelona and Boca Juniors will meet in the Copa Maradona on Thursday, November 25, 2021, to honor the Argentinian soccer legend, who played for both sides, a year after he passed away.

The announcement was made by Turki Alalshikh, Saudi Royal Court Advisor, on Twitter: "A match for history and once in a lifetime only in Riyadh. Copa Maradona between Barcelona and Boca Juniors. The date is November 25. Legends never die," he wrote.

Diego Armando Maradona left an indelible mark in world soccer as one of the greatest to ever lace them up and cemented a legacy that will last forever. He will never be forgotten, and this game will bring him back to memory a year after his death.

Copa Maradona to be played between Barcelona and Boca Juniors

The La Liga side and the Argentine giants are expected to meet in Riyadh on November 25 to pay tribute to Maradona. Diego spent two seasons at Camp Nou between 1982 and 1984  after joining Barca from Boca in 1981, where he had a second stint between 1995 and 1997 to conclude his career.

This won't be the first match between Barcelona and Boca, though, but it will probably be the most special game they ever played so far. Diego Maradona became an icon and left a mark in every club he played.

That's why, a year after his death, two of the teams where he shone will be taking the field to remember him in the best possible way, playing soccer, which has been his passion for his entire life.
