The stage was set and the spotlight was on. Gonzalo Higuaín was ready to make his MLS debut when Philadelphia Union hosted Inter Miami CF yesterday night at Subaru Park in Chester, Pennsylvania.
The former Real Madrid, Napoli, and Juventus standout took the pitch right from the start, anchoring Diego Alonso’s 4-2-3-1 scheme right ahead of Juan Agudelo, Rodolfo Pizarro, and Lewis Morgan.
‘Pipita’ would have his first big chance to score from a bicycle kick but it went slightly wide and hit the post. It would be the first glimpse of what one of the greatest strikers of the decade could do.

However, it only took the home team 25 minutes to go ahead in the scoreboard, when Anthony Fontana connected on a nice dime by Kacper Przybylko from the center of the box to leave Luis Robles without a chance.
Then, Ilsinho would double Philadelphia Union’s lead after another assistby Kacper Przybylko, and it all would go downhill from there not only for Inter Miami CF but also for their brand new reinforcement.
VAR awarded Inter Miami a penalty kick after Victor Ulloa’s shot hit Przybylko’s hand and, as expected, Higuaín was called upon to the spot. Sadly, his shot went far wide on the right side of the goal.

To make things even worst, Pipita was livid after watching Philadelphia Union players celebrating his miss and he almost went at it with Venezuelan midfielder José Andrés Martínez. Needless to say, the internet had a lot to say about it.

Philadelphia Union took the three points at home with a 3-0 win and Inter Miami continues to sit near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Still, it’s only a matter of time before Pipita Higuaín shows what he’s made of and The Herrons will rise like a phoenix.
