Diego Maradona, the Argentine soccer legend that became a God in his home country and a saint in his adopted home in Naples, died when he was only 60 years old. Maradona passed away a few days shy of 1 month past his 60th birthday as fans and pundits mourned the soccer legend across the world.

For fans Diego Maradona is not gone, he is present everywhere, through clips on YouTube, images on Instagram, and vintage shows on television. Maradona has had murals painted of him in almost every corner of the globe, and his childhood home in Villa Fiorito is a national “historic building”.

Maradona delighted the world with his ability with a soccer ball, but also led an up and down life battling addictions, adultery, not recognizing children, and speaking his mind politically. Here is the cause of death of Diego Maradona.

Diego Maradona suffered a cardiac arrest in his home in Dique Luján, Buenos Aires Province, on November 25th, 2020. After several attempts to revive him, Maradona was pronounced dead around 1 PM local time, to the dismay of an entire country that had idolized him to the level of a god for most of his life.

On November 26th, Maradona’s wake was attended by thousands of people who went to the Casa Rosada in Buenos Aires, the equivalent of the White House, to say their final goodbyes to the man who to many single handedly won the 1986 World Cup for Argentina.
