Barcelona had deal with Memphis Depay, La Liga stopped move

The situation around La Liga's meddling in Memphis Depay'sfailed transfer to Barcelona has made the headlines in Spain.

Barcelona and Lyon captainMemphis Depay hadreportedly agreed a deal in the final days of the summer transfer window. However,it was La Liga who vetoed Depay’smove to the Spanish La Liga.

Everyone expected, or at least hoped, that the Dutch would join Barcain the last hours of the transfer window for this summer. According to Catalan newspaper SPORT, La Liga rules have stoppedthe transfer.

La Liga president, Javier Tebas, blocked Depay’s registration at Barcelona because allegedly, the Catalan club would exceed theclub salary limits, which washas agreedas one of the measures in the fight against the financial crisis caused by the coronavirus.

Another key factor

The transfer could have been realized if OusmaneDembele had agreed to leave Barcelona. Manchester United were believed to be in long talks with the French forward. However, the two clubs couldn’t find a final agreement on his transfer.

The deal for Depay was believed to be at around $6m,plus $12million inbonuses. Now, both forward will remain with their respective clubs, at least until January.
