Mexico are finalists of the Gold Cup 2021 after defeating Canada in the 99th minute thanks to Hector Herrera’s goal. The defending champions will meet with the USA in the decisive match once again to revive last edition’s final. It was a tough game for El Tri, but ultimately they overcame a fighter Canada. 

El Tri took the lead thanks to Orbelin Pineda’s goal from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, just after halftime. However, Canada kept fighting and Tajon Buchanan, of New England Revolution, scored the equalizer in the 57th minute. After that, Mexico was awarded another penalty but Maxime Crepeau saved Carlos Salcedo’s shot.

Mexico finished the Group Stage on top of Group A with seven points in three games. They triumphed over Guatemala and El Slavador but were held to a tie by Trinidad and Tobago.
