2021 is finally here, and even though the world hasn't gone back to normal yet, we can be sure that there's going to be soccer and a lot of action. Just in CONCACAF, we'll have the next edition of the Gold Cup, plus the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, as well as the CONCACAF's Men Olympics Qualifying Tournament.
However, teams like Nicaragua will focus their efforts just on clinching a spot in the upcoming World Cup, as, unfortunately, they weren't able to enter the Olympics Qualifying Tournament nor the Gold Cup.
Then again, that might as well be a blessing in disguise, as the Nicaraguans will be fresh, rested, and prepared to clinch their first-ever trip to soccer's ultimate stage. That's why today, we're going to break down their schedule for the 2021 calendar year.
Nicaragua Schedule For The 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers
Nicaragua vs St. Lucia - March 24
Nicaragua will kick off the year by facing off vs. St. Lucia at home for Group E of the CONCACAF qualifiers. This match will be held at Estadio Nacional and will be the first time they meet.
Nicaragua vs Turks & Caicos Islands - March 27
Just three days later, Nicaragua will hit the road to face the Turks & Caicos Islands at the Academy Tcyfa Stadium. Notably, Turks & Caicos have only won 2 of the 29 games they've played in their history and this will be their first meeting vs. Nicaragua.
Nicaragua vs Belize - June 4
Nicaragua will head back home for their third official game of the year as they take on Belize at Estadio Nacional. Thus far, Belize have won 4 games with 3 ties and 3 losses vs. the Nicaraguans, but the home team beat them 3-1 the last time they meet.
Nicaragua vs Haiti - June 8
And last but not least, Nicaragua will travel again to face one of their toughest rivals yet in Haiti. The Caribbeans have beaten them 5 times with 2 draws and 1 loss, and they have taken 2 straight in the rivalry. Also, Nicaragua lost 3-1 the last time they visited Sylvio Cator Stadium.
