Matchday 3 of the Tokyo 2020 Men's Soccer Tournament is over. Even the final round of the Group stage has brought several upsets as well, as Germany, France, and Argentina will pack their bags and head back home after failing to qualify for the Knockout Stage. On Wednesday, July 28, Germany were surprisingly held to a 1-1 tie in the matchup against the Ivory Coast.

Japan paved their way into the Quarter-Finals thanks to a 4-0 thrashing of France later that day. In addition, Brazil justified their favorite role by triumphing 3-1 over Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Egypt marked a 2-0 victory over Australia, while Spain drew 1-1 with Argentina, which denied the Albiceleste the chance to compete for the gold.

South Korea massacred 10-men Honduras with a final result of 6-0, while the New Zealand and Romania duel finished in a goalless 0-0 tie. In the last Matchday 3 game, Mexico emerged victorious against South Africa 3-0. Here, check out the results, and standings of the Tokyo 2020 Men's Soccer Tournament as we enter the Knockout Stage.

2020 Tokyo Olympic Games Group Stage – Standings

After the end of the Group Stage, Japan with nine points in Group A, South Korea with six points in Group B, Spain with five points in Group C, and Brazil with a total of seven points in Group D have qualified for the next phase as the four first-placed teams in the men's soccer tournament. The other four teams that have joined them are Mexico, New Zealand, Egypt, and Ivory Coast.

Mexico earned six points in Group A, New Zealand and Romania are tied with four points in Group B, but the All Whites have a better goal difference than the Tricolours. The same applies to Egypt and Argentina in Group C, as the Eagles conceded two goals less than the Argentine players. The Ivory Coast edged out Germany by one point in the final group, Group D. The Elephants earned five points, one more than Germany in the Group Stage.

Thus the eight countries that will wave the Olympics goodbye are France, South Africa, Romania, Honduras, Argentina, Australia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. South Africa and Saudi Arabia did not manage to grab at least one point in the tournament, while Honduras and Australia won three points each, but that was not enough to grant them a position in the final eight.
