South Korea massacred 10-men Honduras with a final result of 6-0, while the New Zealand and Romania duel finished in a goalless 0-0 tie. After the end of the Group Stage, Japan with nine points in Group A, South Korea with six points in Group B, Spain with five points in Group C, and Brazil with a total of seven points in Group D have qualified for the next phase as the four first-placed teams in the men’s soccer tournament. The other four teams that have joined them are Mexico, New Zealand, Egypt, and Ivory Coast.
Mexico earned six points in Group A, New Zealand and Romania are tied with four points in Group B, but theAll Whites have a better goal difference than theTricolours. The same applies toEgypt and Argentina in Group C, as the Eagles conceded two goals less than the Argentine players. The Ivory Coast edged out Germany by one point in the final group, Group D. TheElephants earned five points, one more than Germany in the Group Stage.
Thus the eight countries that will wave the Olympics goodbye areFrance, South Africa, Romania, Honduras, Argentina, Australia, Germany, and Saudi Arabia. South Africa and Saudi Arabia did not manage to grab at least one point in the tournament, while Honduras and Australia won three points each, but that was not enough to grant them a position in the final eight.
