The Australian Open is a yearly tennis tournament held in Melbourne, Australia, during the last two weeks of January. It is the first of thefour Grand Slam tournaments during the year, taking place before the French Open, Wimbledon, and the US Open. It contains men’s and women’s singles, men’s, women’s, and mixed doubles, junior championships, wheelchair, legends, and exhibition events.
The tournament, dubbed “the Happy Slam”, began in 1905 as the Australasian Championships, and since then, it has developed to become one of the most important sports events in the Southern Hemisphere. It was originally played on grass courts, but since 1988, three different types of hardcourt surfaces have been used.
With its three principal courts, Rod Laver Arena, John Cain Arena, and the rebuilt Margaret Court Arena, it was also the first Grand Slam event to incorporate inside play during inclement weather or high heat. The 2022 Australian Open has been held in Melbourne Park from January 17 through January 30, 2022.It has been played for a total of110th time, the 54th time in the Open Era, and it is the first Grand Slam of the 2022 season.
