Nadalcaptured the Spanish and European tennis titles in his age group when he was only 12 years old. At the age of 15, he became a professional tennis player.

Nadal was a defensive counterpoint in his younger days, dependent upon composure, pace, and determination to outlast his adversaries. That is why much of his early success came on clay, which more than offense rewards defense. However, he has lately become a more competitive player, closer to the baseline and taking action in the early stages. This made it significantly more dangerous for non-clay surfaces and helped him win major grass and hardcourts tournaments as well.
