Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez is the hottest name in the world of boxing right now. The Mexican fighter has become one of the best and most important players in the world and his name is synonymous with money.

Whenever his name is brought up in any conversation, you know it will be controversial. This man has done a really good job during his career, becoming the best P4P fighter in the world, right now, drawing a lot of attention wherever he goes.

When he joined forces with DAZN, people thought that was the biggest team in the world of boxing but things fell apart between them a couple of years later. Lawsuits and disputes stopped one of the biggest associations in sports and the boxer decided to become a free agent. After that, the pugilist found a new promoter and now is ready to start a new chapter in his career.

Why did Canelo Álvarez leave DAZN and Golden Boy?

After signing a massive deal for $365 million over five years in 2018 with DAZN, the Mexican saw how the company tried to change the terms of their deal, Canelo decided to sue the broadcasting company and Golden Boy Promotions, seeking at least $280 million in damages. They agreed to part ways with the fighter, wishing him the best for the future.

After leaving DAZN and Golden Boy, Canelo was a free agent and one of the hottest promoters in the game saw a change and took it, taking the Mexican under their wing and working on a new deal with DAZN for theCallum Smithfight in 2020. Eddie Hearn and his company Matchroom showed up and lure the pugilist.

Right now they’re working on the upcoming fight with Avni Yildirim. Hearn made it clear that they only signed for a fight last season but he’s hoping to get the Mexican a couple of more fights this year.

Who is Eddie Hearn?

Hearn is a 41-year-old promoter, the director of Matchroom Sport, and a director of the Professional Darts Corporation. He has made himself a known name around the world of boxing and you can say he is the biggest promoter in Europe right now. Among his talents, you can find Anthony Joshua, Carl Froch, Josh Warrington, Amir Khan, Kell Brook, Oleksandr Usyk, Vasyl Lomachenko, and Mikey Garcia, among others.

Now he will try to add Canelo to his catalog of fighters, which would be a big move for him this year. Canelo is planning to fight in May again after he takes on Yildirim at the end of this month in México. It seems like Hearn is trying really hard to get the 30-year-old to his company and that would be huge for him. Saúl is the P4P king in the world right now and whoever gets to promote him, will earn a lot of money.
