The Madrid Open, one of Spain’s premier tennis events, has delivered intense matches and unexpected results, including the early elimination of Alexander Zverev. The World No. 2, who was among the top contenders to claim the title, was ousted by Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo, marking a surprising departure for the German.
Zverev wasn’t the only top-10 player to stumble. Russia’s Andrey Rublev suffered a loss to Alexander Bublik in a grueling match (6-4, 0-6, 6-4). The defeat cost Rublev a staggering 950 points, knocking him out of the ATP top 10 and plunging him to the 17th position in the rankings.
Despite being sidelined for three months, Jannik Sinner remains firmly atop the ATP Rankings. The Italian star is on the verge of surpassing Rafael Nadal and John McEnroe for World No.1 milestone. Meanwhile, Zverev retains his No. 2 position despite the loss, as Carlos Alcaraz (World No. 3) skipped the Madrid Open due to injury.
Veteran Novak Djokovic, widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest players, holds steady at World No. 5. The 37-year-old gained 10 points this week, closing in on Taylor Fritz, who dropped 350 points but remains in the fourth spot.

Holger Rune surged to the eighth position, while Lorenzo Musetti climbed to ninth and Tommy Paul rounded out the top 10. On the flip side, Daniil Medvedev fell out of the Top 10, slipping to No. 11.
