Patrick Mahomes has obviously drawn all the attention by leading the Kansas City Chiefs to a dramatic, overtime win in <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl LVIII</a>. Speaking to the media postgame, with the Chiefs just midway through their championship celebration, both Purdy and Shanahan showed how much pain the 49ers feel after the 25-22 loss.

“There’s nothing different to say, I mean I don’t care how you lose when you lose Super Bowls, especially ones you think you can pull off, it hurts,” Shanahan said, when asked if the impact of this loss was any different to his previous Super Bowl appearances.

One of the biggest storylines after the game was that Shanahan lost on the big game for the third time. Apart from being the 49ers HC in Super Bowl LIV, Shanahan was serving as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator against the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/new-england-patriots">New England Patriots</a> in Super Bowl LI.

As part of sports, as part of football, as part of life, as part of life. I’m glad we put ourselves out there. I love our team. We’ll recover, and we’ll be back next year strong.”

Purdy also looked heartbroken after the overtime defeat to Kansas City, but the pain wasn’t so much for himself but for failing to help Shanahan and his teammates get the ultimate prize.

“Yeah, obviously it sucks man,” Purdy said, via NBC Sports. “You want to win it for that kind of guy [head coach Kyle Shanahan]. He’s a great coach. The way he handles himself and carries himself, we all just want to win for him. Obviously, the older guys, the vets. Trent Williams, Arik Armstead and all the guys that have been through it, man, you want to win for them.“

Purdy played a decent game, completing 23 of his 38 passes for 255 yards and a touchdown, but he couldn’t come up with a special play to put the game to bed. His fantastic story from ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ to the Super Bowl couldn’t end with a championship, but what hurts him the most is being unable to do it for Shanahan.



“It starts with Coach, man. That’s who I hurt for,” Purdy continued. “I hurt for all the other guys. Our whole team. What we have been through the last year hasn’t been easy, and for it to go like that, close at the end, it’s tough. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around it.”

He has also led the Niners to back-to-back comeback wins in the playoffs, beating both the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions with epic second-half performances.



The Niners have arguably the most talented roster in the entire league, and people continue to hold that against Purdy. Even so, he’s not to blame for the team he represents.



Purdy is tailor-made for Kyle Shanahan’s offensive system, but he’s also earned his stripes already. He beat both Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance for the starting job, and he held onto it despite having Sam Darnold looking to get his place.

“I feel like it can be a compliment at times, where it’s like, ‘Alright, you’ve got a guy that can come in and run the system well,’” Purdy told 49erswebzone. “I feel like that’s a compliment. I think you’re doing things right, mentally, and obviously, you’re good enough to be able to hit guys that are open and make plays.”



Purdy is well aware of the fact that he’s been privileged by getting the chance to play quarterback in the NFL, which is more than most people could even dream of:



“You know, there’s 32 teams in the NFL, and there’s not a lot of people that can come in and play the quarterback position well in the NFL,” Purdy said. “It’s a hard job. So, if you’re saying that I’m a game manager and I don’t look flashy in how I do it, I mean, that’s your opinion, and that’s OK.”

Purdy was an MVP candidate for most of the season. Then again, it’s not like it was a cakewalk for Kyle Shanahan’s team. They had to fight their way back after trailing in back-to-back playoff games, showing they’re not just talented but also well-coached and resilient.



With that in mind, QB Brock Purdy talked about having that chip on their shoulders and playing with a more aggressive mindset right out of the gate instead of waiting until the second half to take care of business. Otherwise, they won’t be able to get past an experienced team like the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kansas-city-chiefs" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Kansas City Chiefs.</a>



<h2>Purdy Says The Niners Need To Embrace An Underdog Mentality</h2>



“I feel like all of us, we’re sort of learning just that chip on our shoulder, the mindset of our backs being against the wall and we need it,” Purdy told the media. “That’s when our best style of ball comes out and we all step up to the plate and play our best. So, whatever that mindset is early on, we need to get to it.”

Purdy also thinks his team needs to do a better job of executing early. As great as his defense has been to help them come back into games, he thinks they’re better when they’re aggressive right out of the gate:



“Obviously we need to do a better job with third downs early in the game and converting on those and staying on the field,” Purdy. “But I mean, when we needed to come back, we step it up, we pick it up, the intensity, everyone’s just on it and on point. So, if we can have that kind of mindset early on, just like we have all year and come out firing away, I think that’s when our defense plays well with that. So that’s something that we all have to talk about and be better at for sure. And that starts with me.”

Although Purdy was the last pick of the 2022 Draft, he took advantage of his opportunity when Jimmy Garoppolo and Trey Lance went down. The 49ers reached the NFC Championship Game in his rookie season, but, an elbow injury derailed their hopes.



Now, Brock Purdy wants redemption in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl">NFL</a> and he’s just one victory away to do it. Though Brock Purdy didn’t play in Super Bowl 54 at Miami, he has heard enough stories about that game and the impressive comeback of the Kansas City Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes. 


 

 


“For us to be able to go back and play him it’s going to be sweet. It’s going to be special for all of us. I wasn’t here obviously in 2019, but, you can just tell from the guys that have been here. It will be special for them to play these guys. I’m excited to be a part of it.”

<h2>Brock Purdy is ready to make a Super Bowl run</h2>



Even after all the criticism, Brock Purdy&nbsp;sent a big warning to the&nbsp;NFL and the Detroit Lions. Though he acknowledges a bad performance against the Packers, there’s time to adjust and lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl.


 

 


“It’s a new game. It’s a new scheme. It’s a new environment. Everything about it is new. It doesn’t matter if you played good or bad, like I don’t take really any of that with you the next week. It’s almost like you’ve got to clean the slate, learn from the mistakes, build off of the good things that you’ve done. I think that’s where the great ones really separate themselves from the others.”

During that game against Green Bay, Purdy had a lot of trouble in the rain at Santa Clara in the first three quarters. However, with their backs against the wall, the young quarterback delivered. 



“That’s something that I have to be better at. That’s what I needed to do at the end of the game. I feel like we got to that point. I started doing that better. We were able to move the ball. So, that’s something that I learned for sure.”

Purdy also admitted that he’s not haunted by the injury which left him out of last year’s NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.



“This is the 49ers against the Lions. I’m not thinking about last year or anything. Obviously, I got hurt last year and it sucked. That was part of the game. Going into this game, I’m healthy and I feel good. I think for all of us, we’re obviously hungry and want to get to the next game after. We’ve got to handle business, take it one play at a time and allow everything to happen for a reason.”



<h2>Kyle Shanahan believes in Brock Purdy</h2>



Head coach Kyle Shanahan is absolutely convinced that Brock Purdy can lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl. “I wouldn’t put it all on just Brock. Brock did some really good things and that would’ve been impossible to win the game without him.”

Although there are still many doubters around him, Niners legend Jerry Rice is not one of them.







In an appearance on “The Morning Roast” with Bonta Hill and Joe Shasky on 95.7 FM The Game, the three-time <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/super-bowl">Super Bowl</a> champion with the 49ers made it clear he’s not turning his back to the second-year quarterback.



“I believe in Brock Purdy,” Rice said ahead of the Niners’ NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions. “I love his intensity, his decision making, all of those things and I think he’s gonna have his best football game this weekend.“



While Purdy continued to make an impression in 2023, his latest performance against the Green Bay Packers raised some concern, as the Niners had to sweat to get past the Divisional Round. However, Rice’s blessing should be enough for Purdy to head into this weekend with confidence.

<h2>Jerry Rice not worried about most of the league rooting against Purdy, Niners</h2>



The AFC Championship Game between Patrick Mahomes’ Chiefs and Lamar Jackson’s Ravens may be more polarizing for neutral fans, whereas the NFC title matchup clearly has more fans rooting for the Lions.

After decades of misery, Detroit is finally on the verge of making history by achieving a long-awaited success. The rest of the league doesn’t seem to want the Niners to claim another championship, but Rice is fine with that.



“It’s okay, everybody can be going for Detroit,” he said. “We don’t care about that. As long as our team, we get out there and we bring the noise and let them know that hey, look, we want to get this stuff.”



Rice also weighed in on the Deebo Samuel situation, with the wide receiver’s availability for Sunday’s game uncertain due to a shoulder injury sustained last time out. “I expect Deebo Samuel to be on that football field. Deebo, being the competitor that he is, he’s gonna be ready to play,” Rice said.
