The calendar for the 2023 season was confirmed a month ago. That’s something that could be a huge part of how teams end up doing depending on how their games are distributed. However, that doesn’t apply to the preseason.



In the past it was more frequent seeing teams using their starters multiple times. Nowadays it has become a norm to see most of the star players not participating at all, taking the first couple of weeks of the regular season as the preseason.

Rex Sunahara is the XFL player who was invited to the Steelers training camp, he played for the Brahams in the XFL for the San Antonio Brahmas as part of the special teams.

Since he left the Steelers in 2017, Bell has played for four different teams. However, the running back can’t forget what he lived at Pittsburgh and has now mentioned the club that drafted him in 2013 when talking about regrets.

At age of 31 and without a team, Bell is considering if retirement is his best option this year. The free agent has not received an offer from a team to play the 2023 season, but he knows there’s a huge regret in his career, and it includes the Steelers.



“Yeah, it was a little petty, the little guarantee stuff,” Bell said F regarding his infamous contract dispute with Pittsburgh. “I’m thinking like, damn, could I have really just ate it? Yeah, I probably could’ve. Probably could’ve really ate it.



“I never officially retired,” Bell said Friday on the Steel Here podcast. “The day when I do retire, it’s gonna be with Pittsburgh. Like, I’m trying to retire with Pittsburgh. But before I do that, I might be like, ‘Hey, let me get a couple carries in the preseason so I can show you all something.’

Their main choice to begin the season was Mitch Trubisky. <h2>Mitch Trubisky’s contract</h2>



The former second overall pick signed a two-year contract worth 14.2 million dollars in 2022. He got to start the first four matchups, but the offense was among the worst in the NFL. That’s why they decided to give Pickett an opportunity. Although he plays such an important position that teams always want to keep them around if the price is correct.



Trubisky was set to make 8M as a backup, a figure a bit too high for his spot in the depth chart. Releasing him would have cleared some cap space, but Pittsburgh opted to hand him a new contract in order to lower his cap hit from the expected 10.625M.



The Steelers gave Trubisky a two-year extension. He is under contract for the next three years for 19.4M, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. This deal includes incentives that could push the total up to 33M per that report. Earlier in the week the team also made sure <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers-will-sign-a-familiar-quarterback-to-compete-with-kenny-pickett-20230517-BUS-1491.html">to keep their third option Mason Rudolph with a new contract</a>.



“We feel good about our quarterback room, so that was an important piece. Obviously, Kenny Pickett is our starter and we feel really good about Mitch Trubisky in the role he’s in. And he feels good about it. And we’ve added Mason Rudolph. So, we’re really excited about that QB room”, Pittsburgh’s general manager Omar Khan said on the Pat McAfee Show.

This is a surprising turn of events as Mason Rudolph had constantly expressed his frustration for not having a real chance at being the starter. However, when he tested the market, no one took him. There were some rumors about the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals, but no deal.



Rudolph was selected in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Mike Tomlin’s team even made a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to go up and get him. That’s because many scouts within the organization believed he had first-round potential.



So, the plan was to develop Mason Rudolph until Ben Roethlisberger decided to retire. When Big Ben got injured in the 2019 season, Rudolph alternated chances as starter with Duck Hodges, but never really earned the trust of Mike Tomlin. After his first four-year contract, considering he was a solid backup, Rudolph signed a new one year deal.



Then, when the Pittsburgh Steelers training camp began in 2022, Mason Rudolph was promised by Mike Tomlin a fair chance to compete for the starting job with Kenny Pickett and Mitch Trubisky. Rudolph had the best quarterback performances during the preseason, but, Tomlin gave the starting job to Mitch Trubisky.



Furthermore, when Mitch Trubisky failed as starter, Kenny Pickett got the call. In that moment, Mason Rudolph wasn’t even considered to climb to the No.2 spot in the depth chart. So, he saw most of the games in the stands without being activated. Again, Rudolph had no&nbsp;chance to compete.

According to a report from The Washington Post, Bill Belichick put a very low cost to the No.14overall pick during the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He knew that, at No.15, the New York Jets were ready to select offensive tackle, Broderick Jones.
So, Belichick considered the Patriots could trade down and, at the same time, leave Aaron Rodgers without a college star to protect him. The calls were made and the Pittsburgh Steelers appeared as a potential suitor.
What unfolded next was amazing. The Steelers just swapped first round picks (they had No.17) and gave a fourth round pick to the Patriots. Many experts believe it was a bargain as a ‘jump’ of those characteristics should have been at least worthy of a third round pick.

The Rams entered last season as title contenders thanks to the tag of defending champions. Pittsburgh received the WR and the 251st pick in exchange for the 234th pick, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. But that wasn’t it.
Los Angeles also agreed to pay a huge portion of Robinson’s contract, per Pelissero. While the Steelers will be paying five million dollars in 2023, the Rams will give him the remaining 10.25M in his contract. That number includes the 5.25M they already handed as a roster bonus on March 19. This move means Los Angeles will end up paying Robinson a total of 25.75M for only one season.
<h2>Allen Robinson’s contract with the Rams</h2>
Robinson signed a three-year deal worth 46.5 million dollars in 2022, although he never lived up to the expectations. He finished with 33 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games. Therefore, the WR will end up making 2,750,000 per game, near $76,000 per receiving yard or $8,583,333 per score. To make it even worse for Los Angeles, Robinson earned $45,818 dollars per snap having participated in 562 plays.
