<h2>Could more Dodgers join the next WBC?</h2>



It’s very possible, though that decision will be up to the coaching staff. In 2023, Team USA’s roster featured players from several MLB teams. The Dodgers were fortunate to have two representatives, but the Cardinals had the most with four: Miles Mikolas, Adam Wainwright, Nolan Arenado, and Paul Goldschmidt.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Patrick Mahomes</a> was one of the first names that came to mind when the NFL announced that their players will be allowed to participate with Team USA in the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympics.



In fact, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/chiefs-patrick-mahomes-receives-strong-endorsement-from-nfl-star-to-be-team-usas-qb-in-la-2028-olympics">Mahomes received strong endorsement from other NFL stars to be Team USA’s quarterback in LA28</a>. However, it appears that the three-time Super Bowl champion will allow other colleagues to chase the Olympic gold medal.



Speaking to reporters in the first week of the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/kansas-city-chiefs">Chiefs</a>‘ Organized Team Activities (OTAs) on Thursday, Mahomes only needed nine words to let everyone know that he doesn’t see himself playing flag football in 2028.



“I’ll probably leave that to the younger guys,” Mahomes said about the possibility of playing for <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/team-usa">Team USA</a> in the upcoming Summer Olympics, as quoted by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The potential participation of Mahomes in Los Angeles 2028 has given plenty to talk about since the NFL announced that league players will be allowed to take part in the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/olympics">Olympics</a>.

During a recent episode of the “New Heights” podcast with his brother Jason, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end addressed the comments made by Darrell Doucette III. The <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nfl/team-usa-flag-football-star-voices-firm-message-to-nfl-players-who-want-to-play-in-la-2028-olympics">Team USA flag football QB sent a firm message to NFL players who want to play in the Olympics</a>, claiming that they don’t deserve it.

“The flag guys deserve their opportunity,” Doucette said. “That’s all we want. We felt like we worked hard to get the sport to where it’s at, and then when the NFL guys spoke about it, it was like we were getting kicked to the side. I felt like I was the guy who could speak out for my peers, for my brothers that’s been working hard to get to this level, for us not to be forgotten.”

We’re definitely open to all competition. If those guys come in and ball out and they’re better than us, hats off to them. Go win that gold medal for our country.”



<h2>Doucette put himself above Mahomes</h2>



Not long ago, Doucette also made headlines by directly naming <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/patrick-mahomes">Mahomes</a>. Not only did he claim that the current flag football team deserves to be called up, but also said he’s the better option to lead Team USA to an Olympic gold medal.



“I’m not hiding from the competition, none of my teammates nor anybody else in the flag football world are hiding from the competition,” Doucette said. “But at the end of the day, I feel like I’m better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game. I know he’s right now the best in the league, I know he’s more accurate, I know he has all these intangibles, but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him.”



<h2>Kelce willing to show up in LA 2028</h2>



Apart from defending his Chiefs quarterback, Kelce also revealed his desire to participate in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games: “I’ve got to get hip to the rules, so I can get ahead of the curve.”

Yao Ming was a standout in the NBA during his years with the Houston Rockets, known for his massive 7’6” frame and dominant presence. “So listen, we had a bounty out on Yao Ming. First cat to dunk on Yao Ming? Listen, I think it was (Antonio) McDyess, myself, it was like six other people that had that. You know what I’m saying? Like, if we catch him, it’s a million. Cool.”



Very early in the Olympics, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/team-usa">Team USA</a> had the chance to face Ming, as their tournament debut was against China. At that point, the center was just 19 years old, still playing for the Shanghai Sharks, and two years away from being selected first overall by the Houston Rockets in the 2002 NBA Draft.



“Everybody was trying,” KG recalled of that game. “But man, Yao Ming wasn’t playing that (expletive). Boy, Yao Ming was laying people out! You hear me? Trying to lay your (expletive) out. He knew, he felt it, like, ‘Yeah, y’all trying to (expletive) on me out here.’ He fired his (expletive) out.”

Team USA won that game comfortably—as they did most games in that tournament—and Yao Ming had a rough performance: he scored just 5 points, grabbed 3 rebounds, handed out 2 assists, and blocked 2 shots in 16 minutes on the court.

After no one managed to cash in on the Yao Ming bet, Team USA found motivation in other challenges. “Vince (Carter) caught the boy in France (Frederic Weis),” Garnett said. “He didn’t want any problems, so I thought he was actually going to challenge it. You know, he’s 7’4”! And he curled!”



KG later theorized that Weis’ performance against Team USA played a role in his failed <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a> career, despite being a first-round pick by the New York Knicks in the 1999 Draft. “When I say he wiped his (expletive) in real time, boy. He wiped his (expletive) with the Frenchman, man. I was like, ‘Ooooh.’ That man never made it after that. We never heard about that man. That man buried.”



That Rudy Tomjanovich-coached squad featured NBA icons like Ray Allen, Tim Hardaway, Jason Kidd, and Gary Payton. They had little trouble marching to the gold medal, defeating every opponent in their path—including Russia in the quarterfinals, Lithuania in the semifinals, and France in the final.

Four years later, Team USA repeated the feat, and now, one of the standout players from that 1996 squad, NBA icon Gary Payton, is offering strong opinions about the comparison.



During a recent interview on the Knuckleheads Podcast, <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/gary-payton">Payton</a> was asked: “What’s your take? Could Dream Team 2 have beaten Dream Team 1?” The former Seattle SuperSonics point guard responded confidently. “Absolutely,” he said. “They were older, come on, man! And then we took six of their Dream Team I guys and put them on our team.”



Gary then elaborated on the process of assembling the 1996 roster. “You all gotta understand. DC (Derrick Coleman) and them were the ones who went to the qualifying thing and didn’t get on the Dream Team 2. Him, Shawn Kemp, and all of them—they got taken off. Because, you know, they started acting crazy,” he explained. “Then they put us on there.”



He also reflected on the star-studded roster that took to the court in Atlanta. “We had a heck of a team,” Payton began. “We had a young Grant Hill, we had a young Penny Hardaway, we had Reggie Miller, we had Mitch Richmond, then it was me, Shaq (O’Neal), John Stockton, Karl Malone, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson. We had a heck of a basketball team.”

As Payton recalled, several players from the 1992 gold-medal-winning team, including Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone, and John Stockton, returned to represent <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/team-usa">Team USA</a> in 1996. However, legends like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson were absent.

In addition to Payton, who had just been named the <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/nba">NBA</a>’s Defensive Player of the Year with the Seattle SuperSonics, the 1996 squad featured newcomers like Grant Hill, Anfernee Hardaway, Mitch Richmond, Reggie Miller, Shaquille O’Neal, and Hakeem Olajuwon.



The Dream Team II dominated their rivals throughout the tournament, winning every game by an average margin of 31 points. In the final, Team USA faced Yugoslavia and once again showcased their superiority, claiming a decisive 95-69 victory to win the gold medal.



<h2>Team USA also had fun in Atlanta</h2>



In the same interview, Gary Payton shared some behind-the-scenes memories from the 1996 tournament. “We went to Atlanta during the Olympics, and we were out at the strip club every night and blowing everybody out,” the former guard revealed. “We was doing that, Dream Team II. To make that and do that, that was one of the best things ever. The greatest year ever in my whole life that I’ve ever had.”

<a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/aaron-judge">Aaron Judge</a>, star outfielder for the New York Yankees, is regarded as one of the best baseball players in the world. Over his nine-year career in New York, Judge has amassed numerous accolades, including two American League MVP awards in the last three MLB seasons. Despite being 33 years old, all signs suggest he still has many years of high-level performance ahead of him.



Though he has enjoyed his time with the Yankees, Judge recently revealed that he would like to play for another team one day: <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/team-usa">Team USA</a>. In an interview with FOX Sports’ Deesha Thosar, he was asked if he would consider representing the U.S. in the World Baseball Classic. His response left the door open to the possibility, albeit with some reservations.



“I think that would be pretty fun. It just depends. See where I’m at in my career at that point. Hopefully, they still want me,” Judge said. In the same docuseries, Stephen Curry shared his thoughts on the significance of that three-pointer and what it meant to him. “I was like, ‘Damn, that’s a pretty difficult shot—that was pretty cool.’ But when I saw Melo (Carmelo Anthony) and his reaction when he jumped onto the court, and I kind of saw the whole world, how crazy they went—that’s when I realized how special of a moment that was,” the guard said.

When the final roster of Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics was announced, many were surprised by the omission of NBA Finals MVP and Boston Celtics champion <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/jaylen-brown">Jaylen Brown</a>. 



Following Kawhi Leonard’s injury, most expected Brown to be the obvious replacement. However, Team USA chose to add Brown’s <a href="https://bolavip.com/en/topic/boston-celtics">Celtics</a> teammate, Derrick White, to the roster instead.



In a conversation with Stephen A. Smith, Brown expressed his stance regarding the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. “I’ll say this. In 2028 if I have to sign with Nike to increase my likelihood to play USA basketball, I think I’ll pass,” Brown declared. “I think the industry needs some new energy, some new creativity, and some new options,” he shared.



Brown went further to criticize the current landscape of endorsement deals, particularly how shoe companies define an athlete’s value. “I think the way shoe companies go about issuing deals and illustrating people’s value in terms of (intellectual property), creative control, and how involved you are in the process needs to change,” he added.
